By 1976 the old General Post Office on Des Voeux Road had been serving Central for over sixty years. Within a few years of this photograph it was gone — demolished and replaced, one of the quickest disappearances of a familiar building on the waterfront.
What you can see in the photograph
- POST OFFICE carved into the stone band above the main entrance.
- The SIBERIAN FUR STORE sign next door, trading from the same block.
- Trams and three-wheeled tricycles on Des Voeux Road, in front of the colonnade.
