Sai Kung is known as the back garden of Hong Kong, and there are more than 70 islands in the waters, which is a good place for outings. Sai Kung City in the area was inhabited by fishermen as early as the 14th century, and later developed into a market. Traveling to this area can not only experience the rural side of Hong Kong, but also experience the rural culture.
The name "Sai Kung" only appeared around the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. From the third year of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty to the eighth year of Xuande of Emperor Xuanzong of the Ming Dynasty, the Ming government sent Zheng He to the Western Ocean seven times. After seven voyages to the West, many countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa also paid tribute or trade to the Ming Dynasty. The Saigon area was a port where tribute ships from the West were berthing at that time. "Sai Kung" means "tribute from the West".
After more than 100 years, the city center of Sai Kung has changed a lot, including the reclamation project of Chung Mei Tuk in Sai Kung in 1993 and the addition of houses and government buildings.
