It has just stopped raining in Central, 1969. The road is still wet enough to mirror the shopfronts, and the signs stack up one above another — the look of a street where every floor advertises something different.
What you can see in the photograph
- Shop signs including 美華 女服 (a dress shop) and 德仁, mounted over the pavement on brackets.
- A Coca-Cola clock projecting from the wall, one of the street clocks people set their watches by.
- Post-war buildings of the 1950s and 60s on both sides, their balconies reaching over the walkway.
- A car passing through, and a woman with a plastic bag stepping up onto the pavement.
- The reflection in the wet road, which doubles every sign in the frame.
